Monkfield Medical Practice (MMP) is a friendly,modern, forward thinking GP surgery providing sustainable healthcare to Cambourne with over 14,000 patients.You will be joining a large cohesive multi-disciplinary team of GeneralPractitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants,Phlebotomist, Management and Administrative staff, Clinical Pharmacist, SocialPrescriber, First Contact Physiotherapist and a research team.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the multidisciplinaryPractice team to provide general medical services to a high standard. This willinclude day-to-day activities such as surgery consultations, telephone advice,telephone consultations, home visits and carrying out appropriateadministration to ensure accurate records, patient continuity and quality ofcare whilst adhering to the principles of good medical practice as set out bythe GMC as the principles, values, and standards of professional behaviourexpected of all doctors

We are a training practice with four tier 3trainers, and a teaching practice taking University of Cambridge MedicalStudents and Anglia Ruskin University Nursing Students. We encourage innovationand improvements, for example, we run a novel community-based palpitationsdiagnostic pathway with hand-held ECG devices and are upscaling it to theregion. We achieved the status of being a Research Practice in July 23 and nowdeliver several research studies across Meridian PCN with a highly active andexperienced team. We support numerous portfolio GPs with extra roles. Thepartners themselves are skilled in education and research.

Job responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities - The post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. The following list is not exhaustive:

  • Refer patients as appropriate and in accordance with local procedures.
  • Undertake duties such as prescription signing, prescribing reviews, telephone advice, duty doctor, in accordance with the rota
  • Undertake clinics, post-natal checks, child developmental checks as agreed or required.
  • Manage long-term conditions in accordance with practice and national clinical guidelines.
  • Prescribe generically and in accordance with the practice formulary.
  • Provide appropriate health promotion advice to all patients
  • Ensure good clinical governance is part of patient care and other practice activities.
  • Adhere to practice guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Practice evidence-based medicine.
  • Take ongoing responsibility for patients with difficult and complex problems including consistent follow-through.
  • Participate in audit and quality improvement processes.

Non Clinical Responsibilities - A Salaried GP will:

  • Maintain clinical records (manual/electronic) in line with good practice and in accordance with practice procedures including appropriate coding as agreed in the practice.
  • Maintain administrative records in relation to the contract, enhanced services contracts and QOF including coding.
  • Work in line with agreed practice procedures and protocols
  • Be available for informal contact with team members, especially other GPs, at coffee times.
  • Work as a strong team player, providing help to others where appropriate.
  • Attend on a regular basis in house clinical, administrative and educational meetings.
  • Contribute to the practices clinical governance and quality activities including clinical audit.
  • Taking personal responsibility for reading and, where appropriate, responding to e-mail communication to and from MMP team members and external organisations
  • Be supportive of a research and improvement culture in the practice.
  • Maintain good practice in managing patient confidentiality as described by the GMC.

Professional Development - A salaried GP will:

  • Prepare for and complete the annual internal and external appraisal system.
  • Prepare for and complete the revalidation process.
  • Undertake training that meets personal, statutory and practice learning needs including recording of learning, reflection, complaints etc.
  • Participate in and contribute to learning activities such as significant event reviews, clinical audit, protected learning time.
  • Contribute to delivering teaching for medical students and other health professionals in training.
