Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor - Bristol

(Fixed-Term Contract)

Somerset & Gloucestershire | Land & Estates Team

I'm working with a leading organisation seeking an experienced Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor to join their Land & Estates team covering Somerset and Gloucestershire.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work across a diverse and significant rural property portfolio, supporting the management of a wide range of let assets and providing technical expertise on land management matters to operational colleagues.

You'll combine strong professional surveying skills with a genuine interest in nature conservation, helping shape modern approaches to rural land stewardship. The organisation is undergoing a major strategic shift focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for the environment and local communities, and you'll play a key role in guiding that change.

Why This Role Stands Out

You'll be joining a team whose work underpins a substantial income stream through the effective management of tenancies and rural assets. This is an exciting moment to get involved, with new strategic direction already in place and a growing emphasis on innovation, environmental outcomes, and partnership working.

You'll take on varied, interesting casework and projects that genuinely influence the future of a large and diverse estate portfolio.

The role is contractually based in Bristol, though there is flexibility around working arrangements. Expect to spend 40-60% of your time on site across various estate locations in the region.

You'll be part of a collaborative team that includes specialists in building maintenance, estate management, lettings and business operations.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing commercial lettings and agricultural tenancies
  • Overseeing agri‑environment schemes and in‑hand land management
  • Supporting woodland creation and woodland management initiatives
  • Advising on access rights, boundaries, and restrictive covenants
  • Contributing to occasional acquisitions and disposals
  • Promoting and embedding best practice within structured governance processes

You'll bring sound technical judgement, strong stakeholder skills and a forward‑thinking approach to managing land and property for long‑term environmental and operational benefit.

Who We're Looking For

Minimum criteria:

  • Membership of, or eligibility for, RICS (Rural pathway)
  • Degree in rural land management, surveying, or a related discipline
  • Strong technical understanding of:
    • land use and rural asset management
    • commercial property management
    • conservation and sustainable development
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to balance conservation priorities alongside tenant and stakeholder needs
  • Proficiency with property management systems, GIS, Microsoft Office, and digital record‑keeping
The Package

This organisation is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace where people feel represented, supported, and valued. Benefits include:

  • Pension scheme (up to 10% employer contribution)
  • Free access to a wide range of heritage, leisure or partner sites for you and your family
  • Rental deposit loan scheme
  • Season ticket loan
  • Electric vehicle lease scheme
  • Discounts on gyms, retail, cinema and more
  • Holiday allowance rising to 32 days, with a holiday purchase scheme
  • Flexible working options wherever possible
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free parking at most sites
