Job overview

The post holder will work to the highest standards and act as Practitioner for all diagnostic imaging in accordance with Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations; IR(ME)R (2000). A state registered Radiographer; the post holder will ensure that adequate training is delivered to all radiographic staff.

To assess the clinical justification of referrals in accordance with IR(ME)R (2000) and local protocols and liaise with referrers and radiologists to select the most appropriate imaging procedure.

• The post his expected to have CT scan experience and be conversant with CT scan procedures with ability to liase with radiologists, A / E consultants and CT superintendent to rectify issues arising from his / her duty quickly.
• Be able to articulate the radiographic procedure, and complex or sensitive information in language suitable to a wide variant of patients with specific and individual needs.
• Perform a wide range of radiographic, theatres and CT procedures as required, managing patient priority as appropriate and maintaining a high standard of patient care, respect for privacy and dignity.
• Participate in safe manual handling of patient and equipment within the hospital using risk assessment approach and co-operation with other members of staff.
• Review images produced and ensure that any additional imaging procedures or images are acquired prior to the patient leaving the department.
• Communicate effectively with patients and escorts throughout their journey in the department and the potential outcome of the examination.
• Act as co-ordinator to organise targeted lists and fast tracking serious findings to radiologists. Adapt to changes in working practices in response to development of the service.
• Supervise, support and train less experienced radiographers and student trainee radiographers. Assist in managing a varying workload according to need, recognising and respecting the individual needs of patients and staff and other stakeholders.
• Monitor and report faults in any equipment with regard to the urgency of the problem. Record and accurately examine patients who have been referred on research and clinical trials and complete all relevant documentation.
• The candidate will participate on out of hours, week days and weekend on-call duties respectively.
• To be aware and be able to deal with any possible procedural complications without direct supervision by senior imaging personnel.
