Job description

Our client is one of the fastest growing insurance organisations operating within the UK insurance market today. They are a progressive organisation with regional offices located throughout the UK.

They offer a bespoke offering to their commercial insurance clients and are now seeking a Regional Risks Manager/Surveyor to work within the Midlands area to work with their underwriters and for you to use your technical expertise to assess the risks underwritten and report their observations and opinions to the Underwriters.

To support the achievement of Company income and profit objectives by delivering an efficient, and technically competent, survey and risk management service to underwriters and customers.

The Company's underwriting philosophy requires that risks underwritten will be surveyed, and a resurvey programme implemented commensurate with the risk presented. The surveyors use their technical expertise to assess the risks underwritten and report their observations and opinions to the Underwriters. They also advise clients on Fire Safety/Protection, Security, Health and Safety and other risk management issues and this service is marketed as an added benefit of using the company.

To summarise the key aspects the role, these are:-

Survey Authority:

Trade Hazard Codes 1 to 6- 25m combined Material Damage/ Business Interruption TSI

No restrictions on Liability exposures.

  • Undertake new business, renewal and post-loss surveys in accordance with Company philosophy, including production of reports and risk improvements, within service standards.
  • Ensure prompt feedback to Underwriters of any features of the risk that have an impact on underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor and manage ongoing work position of own operational region, in conjunction with the Underwriting Director, to ensure efficient survey service.
  • Delegate authority to reporting Risk Control Surveyors as appropriate, where surveys exceed normal authority limits.
  • Manage, motivate and develop the Risk Control Surveyors under the job holder’s control and oversee the development of their technical skills by delivering technical training and guidance.
  • Maintain personal knowledge and understanding of all relevant technical and legal issues and disseminate appropriate information to ensure that the Risk Control Team, reporting Surveyors and regional underwriting staff are always kept fully informed.
  • Conduct audits of reporting Risk Control Surveyors to ensure technical standards are maintained and identify training needs.
  • Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, especially the Claims, Underwriting and Sales teams.

RELATIONSHIPS (INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL)

  • Effective management and support of reporting Surveyors
  • Completion of surveys within standards (region and personal)
  • Provision of risk management advice and information
  • Levels of complaints received and resolution of complaints
  • Effective liaison with Underwriting, Claims and Sales teams
  • Contribute positively to broker relationship building work of Branches

Excellent and very generous basic salary £65k to £75k, car allowance, and other staff benefits would be provided with this opportunity.
