Knutsford Medical Partnership are a single practice PCN, serving approximately 24,000 patients across three sites. We are looking for a proactive Research & Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team.

The research team is well established and supportive, already consisting of a committed Research Lead GP Partner and a dedicated Research Projects Manager who oversee study delivery and engagement. We are a motivated, experienced team with a proven track record of successful recruitment and a genuine enthusiasm for developing research within primary care.

As an active recruiting practice for primary care research, with an expanding research portfolio this role will be essential to delivering high-quality research alongside core practice nursing activity.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied and rewarding post combining clinical practice nursing with research delivery, including:

  • Supporting and delivering NIHR and commercial research studies
  • Patient identification, screening, consent, and follow-up
  • Clinical procedures related to research protocols (e.g. observations, phlebotomy, ECGs where trained)
  • Working closely with GPs, multidisciplinary teams, care homes, local pharmacy and external research networks
  • Maintaining accurate documentation in line with GCP and governance standards

Depending on experience and research service need, the role will also include:

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Research Nurse / General Practice Nurse to join our GP surgery on a part-time, fixed-term basis. The post holder will work across clinical general practice nursing duties and the delivery of high-quality primary care research studies.

The role involves supporting the identification, recruitment, consent and follow-up of patients participating in research, alongside providing safe, effective, evidence-based nursing care to the practice population. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the wider primary care team and external research partners to ensure research is delivered in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Research Responsibilities

  • Identify, screen and recruit eligible patients for research studies in line with study protocols
  • Obtain informed consent in accordance with GCP and ethical approvals
  • Deliver study procedures, including data collection, clinical assessments, and sample handling as required
  • Maintain accurate and timely research documentation and records
  • Liaise with principal investigators, research networks, sponsors and external stakeholders
  • Ensure research activity complies with regulatory, governance and safety requirements
  • Support monitoring visits, audits and study close-out activities
  • Promote research awareness within the practice and to patients

General Practice Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care within the GP surgery
  • Undertake clinical duties appropriate to a Band 6 General Practice Nurse, which may include:
  • Long-term condition management
  • Health promotion and disease prevention
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Wound care and chronic disease reviews
  • Maintain clinical competence and work within NMC Code of Professional Standards
  • Contribute to safeguarding adults and children in line with practice policies

Professional and Team Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, HCAs and administrative staff
  • Networking and working collaboratively with NIHR CRN, Care Homes, Pharmacy and Research Providers
  • Participate in service development, audit and quality improvement activities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuing professional development
  • Adhere to practice policies, infection control, health and safety, and information governance requirements
Person Specification
Research Experience
  • Experience of working within clinical research, audit, or service evaluation
  • Experience of identifying and screening patients against research or other protocols
  • Experience of obtaining informed consent or willingness to develop competence in this area
  • Experience of accurate data collection and documentation
  • Previous experience in a dedicated research nurse role
  • Experience of delivering NIHR portfolio or commercial studies
  • Experience of liaising with sponsors, research networks or external stakeholders
  • Experience of supporting study set-up, monitoring and close-out
Other Requirements
  • Willingness to undertake Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training if not already completed

Qualifications
