Job summary

The Clinical Artificial Intelligence Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group based in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, focusing on the evaluation of AI and digital health technologies. Co‑led by Dr Alex Novak (Emergency Medicine) and Dr Sarim Ather (Radiology), the group engages a rapidly expanding team in partnership with clinical, academic and industrial stakeholders across the UK and internationally.

Key responsibilities
  • Ensure all clinical trials are set‑up, conducted and managed in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and relevant SOPs.
  • Manage and lead the administrative and operational team, including finance, budget and resource allocation.
  • Co‑develop and deliver the operational strategy for the research group in collaboration with investigators and the Clinical Research Manager.
  • Lead business development to build a sustainable portfolio of commercial and non‑commercial research, including OUH‑sponsored trials.
  • Coordinate with clinical and medical team members to provide portfolio updates and represent the group at relevant meetings.
  • Work with the Clinical Research Manager to deploy clinical skill and expertise as required.
Qualifications and experience
  • Essential: Life sciences (or equivalent) degree; knowledge of clinical trials, UK regulations, GCP and regulatory framework.
  • Desirable: Experience working in a NHS clinical research environment; experience working with AI.
Personal and behavioural skills
  • Essential: Excellent communication skills and ability to facilitate collaborative working relationships; ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities.
  • Desirable: Project management training.
Technical skills
  • Essential: Well‑developed IT skills, data collection and internet skills; knowledge of developing budgets for clinical trials including AcoRD.
  • Desirable: Competence in research‑oriented PC software (Access, Excel, SPSS, R); experience managing NIHR grant funding.
