Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated oncology nurse to join the GI and Lymphoma Research team. The key worker will support all patients entering clinical trials in the unit, including trials related to anti‑cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological therapy, gene therapy, surgery), symptom management or other aspects of cancer care such as screening.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, educate and monitor patients entering a clinical trial.
• Work closely with the principal investigator and multidisciplinary team members.
• Provide advice, information and act as patients’ advocate.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of data derived from the research studies.
• Ensure that research undertaken within the department safeguards patient well‑being and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines.
• Liaise with pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions during trial development.
• Attend study days, further education courses and conferences relevant to the speciality.
• Work under the supervision of the senior research nurse or Study Site Coordinators within the research team.
• Involve in the day‑to‑day running of clinical trials within the Trust.

Additional Opportunities

The research nurse may contribute to the development of the trial design and has a key role in incorporating the patients’ and nurses’ perspectives. The opportunity to undertake personal research or further study, in consultation with the lead medical investigator & Senior Nurse, Clinical Trials, is also encouraged.
