Job description
Overview

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in consumer lifestyles, food or mobility research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the Healthy and Sustainable Places Data Service (HASP, https://hasp.ac.uk/), one of six Data Services funded by the ESRC Smart Data Research UK programme (https://www.sdruk.ukri.org/). HASP enables high quality, novel and robust research utilising Smart Data. In collaboration with data and delivery partners, it bridges the gap between academia and industry by unlocking data that might otherwise not be available, co-designing research which otherwise would not be possible, and realising impacts that otherwise might not materialise.

The Research Fellow will undertake robust, high quality and impactful research which advances our understanding of what makes places healthy and sustainable, with a particular focus in one or both of our priority areas: Healthy & Sustainable Lifestyles and Food, and Healthy & Sustainable Mobility. You will have the opportunity, in collaboration with service directors, to design and implement research projects that further the HASP vision to better understand and improve the health and sustainability of places.

Please note that this post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route but first-time applicants might need to qualify for salary concessions. For more information please visit: www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa.

For research and academic posts, we will consider eligibility under the Global Talent visa. For more information please visit: https://www.gov.uk/global-talent.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust, high quality, and impactful research projects within HASP.
  • Collaborate with service directors, data partners and delivery partners to advance HASP’s vision to understand and improve the health and sustainability of places.
  • Contribute to research dissemination and realising impacts from studies in priority areas: Healthy & Sustainable Lifestyles and Food, and Healthy & Sustainable Mobility.
Requirements
  • Ambitious researcher with an established background in consumer lifestyles, food or mobility research.
  • Ability to undertake robust, high quality research and to design and implement research projects in collaboration with partners.
  • Willingness to engage with visa sponsorship information as referenced (Skilled Worker visa and Global Talent visa processes).
What we offer in return
  • 26 days holiday plus approx. 16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – That’s 42 days a year!
  • Generous pension scheme plus life assurance – The University contributes 14.5% of salary.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
  • Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.
  • Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.
