Location: Blackley, Manchester, Great Britain

Lubrizol invites enthusiastic, motivated students to join our Blackley Research Team for a rewarding Student Placement year. This placement offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and organic chemistry within a dynamic, innovative research environment. You will contribute to new product development projects, including synthesis and application testing of novel materials against existingproducts, allowing you to engage with the full product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct synthesis and development of novel polymeric dispersants tailored for applications in paints, inks, and plastics.
  • Perform detailed synthetic experiments, accurately maintaining an up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Communicate experimental results and findings effectively during team meetings and quarterly reviews.
  • Design and execute screening tests to evaluate performance characteristics of newly synthesized materials in various application environments.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in the research group and applications department to integrate research efforts and feedback.
Candidate Profile
  • Currently studying a chemistry-related degree with an industrial placement year, aiming for or holding a 2:1 degree classification or above.
  • Possess practical laboratory experience gained through university coursework or previous placements.
  • Capable of working collaboratively within a team while also demonstrating initiative and independence on assigned projects.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently to meet project deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, enabling clear documentation and data analysis.
  • A keen interest in organic and polymer chemistry, with enthusiasm to engage in the entire development process from candidate identification to application testing and scale-up.
