Regulations and Compliance Manager - Energy

Location: Preston

Join one of the most progressive energy companies in the North West as a Regulations and Compliance Manager. You will oversee the Regulation and Compliance team, ensuring the company understands and complies with obligations under the supply licence conditions, GDPR, and other legal requirements.

As a rapidly growing business, they seek a professional who can stay abreast of regulatory changes impacting the energy market, maintaining compliance while fostering agility and innovation. Your role will involve monitoring activities across the business and its partners to ensure adherence to relevant obligations.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure policies, procedures, guidelines, infrastructure, systems, and processes meet statutory, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  2. Maintain compliance with standards such as ISP27001, ISO 27005, and BS7858.
  3. Manage the company's risk processes, assessments, and register.
  4. Support the administration of statutory, regulatory, and compliance requirements, including responses to regulators.
  5. Conduct internal compliance monitoring and audits, maintaining the audit monitoring log.
  6. Resolve regulatory and compliance issues, driving continuous quality improvement and staff training.
  7. Stay updated on OFGEM, Elexon, GDPR, and other relevant regulators, informing the team of legislative changes.
  8. Manage document control requests following quality department procedures.
  9. Build and maintain relationships with OFGEM, BEIS, and the ICO.
  10. Assist internal teams in maintaining compliance and managing regulatory changes effectively.
  11. Oversee Elexon & SEC external audits, including documentation and checklists.
  12. Respond to consultations and RFIs from OFGEM, BEIS, Citizens Advice, and Which, providing analysis and policy response strategies.
  13. Lead responses and mitigation actions related to enforcement activities.
  14. Support the design of compliance training programs for the energy business.
  15. Develop and implement a robust compliance monitoring process, ensuring audits and issue resolutions.
  16. Create compliance policies tailored for the energy sector.
  17. Manage the internal ISMS System.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent educational qualification (essential).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (essential).
  • Knowledge of risk and governance processes, procedures, methodologies, and statistical techniques.
  • Understanding of the wider governance agenda.
  • Experience in a similar role within the industry.
  • Proven track record of implementing compliance policies and processes.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and communicate it clearly.
  • Logical problem-solving skills with a focus on regulatory challenges.
  • Attention to detail and a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a small company.
  • Industry network development with participants, trade bodies, regulators, and policymakers.
  • Minimum 3 years of compliance experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the energy industry in a similar role.
