Overview

We are seeking a motivated and passionate Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our dedicated Surgical Nursing Team, supporting both our Orthopaedic and Soft Tissue departments. Our hospital is staffed by highly skilled RVNs 24/7, 365 days a year, delivering exceptional referral and ECC care to our patients. You will be part of a well-established surgical team comprising three European diplomate specialist surgeons, one RCVS specialist, Surgical Residents, Surgical Interns, and a team of 21 experienced RVNs, supported by Student Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants. In this varied and rewarding role, you'll be involved in the day-to-day running of both surgical departments, including providing complex inpatient care, delivering anaesthesia for diagnostic imaging and a wide range of surgical procedures, and supporting cases such as abdominal and thoracic surgery, fracture repairs, cruciate surgery, joint replacements, and advanced wound management.

Wear Referrals (part of Linnaeus Veterinary Limited, owned by Mars) is a multi-disciplinary, specialist veterinary referral hospital in the north east of England, close to the historic university city of Durham, the thriving city of Newcastle, and set between the north east coast and the Pennines. Our award-winning hospital is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Scotland. Our services, with more than 20 specialists, include neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, anaesthesia, oncology, diagnostic imaging and cardiology, as well as a busy primary care out-of-hours emergency service and in-house physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Our nursing team consists of over 60 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN) specialising alongside our vets, including a dedicated night nurse team. Responsibilities
  • Provide complex inpatient care.
  • Deliver anaesthesia for diagnostic imaging and a wide range of surgical procedures.
  • Support cases such as abdominal and thoracic surgery, fracture repairs, cruciate surgery, joint replacements, and advanced wound management.
  • Work closely with our Anaesthesia service, as well as ICU, Neurology, Oncology and Internal Medicine teams.
  • Scrub into advanced surgeries, receiving ongoing training and specialist support.
  • Work within a rolling rota that includes weekend and bank holiday cover.
Qualifications
