Job description

Ready to thrive with a friendly, supportive team that values your ideas? Join the NEW Oxford Cat Clinic venture, and help move this forward-thinking, independent practice to a new realm!

About us

The Clinic is evolving — and we’re excited to share what’s next!

We’ve built a strong reputation for excellence in feline medicine, both at first-opinion and referral level. Now, we’re expanding our Marston practice to welcome all small animals, and we’re looking for an additional RVN to join us on this exciting journey.

Our Botley practice will remain 100% feline — no changes there! And of course, all the feline expertise and high standards of care we’re known for will continue in our new venture, alongside excellent veterinary care for other small animal species.

This is an incredible opportunity to make a real impact, develop your skills, and grow alongside our experienced nurse team.

  • Kathryn is particularly interested in feline behaviour and has completed the ISFM Feline Behaviour course.
  • Tilly recently joined the team as our lead nurse at Botley. Tilly has a passion for anaesthesia and nurse consults.
  • Rachel is our newest team member and joined us shortly after qualifying.

We actively encourage our nurses to use and develop their full range of nursing skills, so if you want to take on a certificate and continue your studies, we will fully support you. We love our nurse clinics and welcome your enthusiasm and ideas to help us launch condition-specific clinics.

We’re a supportive bunch that values collaboration, so a positive attitude and team-focused mindset are key. We hold daily huddles with the whole team at key points throughout the day, which is a great way to have clinical discussions, share ideas, and generally catch up.

What our team says about us:

“The best thing about working at the cat clinic is the calm environment. It not only benefits the cats but also us! I also love the variety of cases. Academically, you can see and be part of complex cases that involve a lot of nursing care. Plus, I love that all the vets are understanding with nurses, and they value and consider our advice when applicable. No one has ever put me down for being a nurse; they all listen to you and treat you as an equal."

Claudia RVN

“A knowledgeable team that shares ideas and thoughts feels more like family than colleagues. I love my shifts at OCC!”

Becca Finney, Locum RVN

“What I enjoy about working at the Oxford Cat Clinic is being part of a team of people that are passionate about the health and wellbeing of the cats under their care; being part of a team where everyone’s roles are valued, receptionists, nurses and vets alike; working with vets who are experts in their field and using their experience and expertise to take first opinion cases further than was possible in general practice; working with a great team of nurses who are brilliant at cat handling; working in a practice that has a greater vision than just making the books balance at the end of the month, but to be a centre of excellence in feline medicine.”

Duncan MRCVS

“What I enjoy the most about working at the Oxford cat clinic is being able to work with lovely people who share the same passion for cats and their wellbeing!”

Ioanna MRCVS

The Rota

We understand the importance of work-life balance, which is why we have designed a flexible, balanced schedule. As we establish ourselves in Marston, you will initially be required to support our cat-only Botley site on weekends and cover some late checks there in the event of staff absence.

  • The Clinic will be open 5 days a week: 2 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm, and 3 days a week from 8 am to 6 pm. Your 8-hour shifts will be rostered within these hours.
  • Lunch breaks are paid.
  • You may be required to cover weekends at our Botley cat-only site during times of team absence or holiday, but this will be no more than 1 in 5. Saturday 8.30-2.30, Sunday 8.30-12.30, with time off in lieu the following week.
  • No out-of-hours or bank holidays, as this is outsourced.
  • Just one 10 pm late check per week (when on late shift) for any stable inpatients at our Botley site.
  • Weekend inpatient late checks are shared with the duty vet.
  • You will receive a bonus payment for any late checks carried out.

Please be aware that, as this is a new venture, rotas and structures may change as things develop. The exciting part is that you can be part of the change-making process!

The social scene

We’re a close-knit team that loves spending time together, whether sharing laughs at work over some of Duncan's delicious cake or grabbing a meal at the local pub. During our Christmas celebration, we enjoyed a great night of food, drinks, and junkyard miniature golf.

The local area

Oxford has something for everyone, from its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene to punting on the River Isis and hiking, cycling, and nature walks in the picturesque countryside of the Cotswolds and Chiltern Hills. It’s also just an hour to London by train and has easy access to the M4.

We offer:
  • A salary of £28,000 to £32,000
  • 5 weeks’ holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Your birthday off
  • CPD encouraged, with certificates supported and funded
  • Professional fees paid for RCVS and VDS

We’d love to share more about our fantastic team. Just give us a call, and let’s have a chat about your future with us!
