Registered Nurse-Lactation Consultant (Pediatric Dept.)

Matrix Providers is hiring a Registered Nurse-Lactation Consultant (Pediatric Dept.) to join our team of talented professionals providing healthcare services to Military Service Members and their families at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth VA.

  • Employment Status: Full Time
  • Compensation: This is a salaried position, paid bi-weekly.
  • Schedule: Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) or nine (9) hour period.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Certification: Possess and maintain certification in Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).-Board Certification Possess and maintain certification as a lactation consultant as determined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
  • Experience: Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to the HCW’s clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or nurse practitioner who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW’s clinical competence in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCW’s communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.
  • Licensure: Possess and maintain certification as a lactation consultant and Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse as required in the TO.

Job Summary:

  • Actively promote breastfeeding and develop and implement standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the organization as well as existing programs, such as: OB, Childbirth Education, and Breastfeeding classes.
  • Be responsible for organizing information and preparing marketing material to promote breastfeeding, collaborating with Department Heads from Pediatrics, Family Practice, and OB/GYN for patient care education.
