Job description
Overview

A vacancy for Registered Nurses with an interest in Women’s Health to join the Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) at the Royal Derby Hospital, part of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The service delivers specialist, evidence‑based, holistic care to women with early pregnancy complications and emergency gynaecological conditions. The unit works in close liaison with ED, midwifery and GP colleagues and provides time‑critical rapid assessment.

We are looking for compassionate, highly motivated Registered Nurses with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for caring for women. Knowledge and experience of gynaecology and early pregnancy management and treatment pathways is desirable. The post holder will practice in a holistic, non‑judgmental, caring and compassionate manner, support social inclusion, respect individual choice and recognise diversity.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient‑centred care within GAU and EPAU in line with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Collaborate with consultants, senior staff, specialist nurses, healthcare assistants and reception staff as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and contribute to practice within the clinical care setting and undertake work‑based training as required.
  • Maintain bidirectional communication with the senior team to ensure a high‑quality service for patients and their relatives.
  • Support the professional development of junior staff and act as a role model where appropriate.
  • Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and other relevant guidelines; be accountable for own professional actions.
  • Work across a 7‑day rota; shifts include Monday–Friday 08:30–19:00, Monday–Friday 08:30–17:00, and Saturday–Sunday 08:30–16:30.

  • Registered Nurse (NMC), with interest or experience in gynaecology and early pregnancy care preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with patients, families and multi‑disciplinary teams.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and ability to work within Trust policies and guidelines.
