Overview

23 hours per week. We are seeking B5 Registered Nurses to join our team. Edgcumbe Ward is a specialist dementia 11 bedded assessment unit based at Mount Gould Hospital in Plymouth. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health or General Nurse to join our team. We are looking for applicants who have an interest in the care of people with dementia and want to develop their clinical and assessment skills in both mental and physical health. The post holder will work a range of shifts including long days, early, late and night shifts over a 7 day period. We welcome applications from people who may already have experience or who may be recently qualified. This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route; please refer to the Direct Gov website for details. Livewell may close the job advertisement earlier than the specified deadline if a high number of applications are submitted. All Livewell staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7 day service.

Job Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Utilise professional skills to assess, plan and deliver care to patients who are in an acute phase of their illness.
  • Organise the provision of care and act as named professional within a care team for a specified group of patients.
  • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and implement team decisions; ensure planned nursing care is implemented and evaluated.
  • Participate in training programmes for trained and untrained staff; support student nurses with training objectives.
  • Administer medications according to policy; maintain high standards of care within available resources.
  • Be involved in line management and appraisals; liaise with other wards and services; maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families and other health professionals; participate in CPA MDT reviews and ward rounds; promote person-centred care.
  • Attend meetings (Case Conference, Mental Health Review Tribunals, Best Interests) and provide clinical supervision.
  • Maintain knowledge of Livewell South West policies and guidance; undertake Physical Intervention training as provided; ensure compliance with clinical record-keeping policy.
  • Understand and apply Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards; support induction and preceptorship programs; complete mandatory training as required.
  • Assess and manage risk for personal safety and the safety of colleagues; work in line with NMC CPD guidelines and Code of Conduct; participate in service developments.
  • Comply with infection control policies and escalate concerns as needed.
