Job Details

We are looking for a committed Pupil Support Assistant (2) who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Pupil Support Assistant (2), you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils / children individually or in class or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.
  • Contribute information to update planning and review process for individual pupils / children.
  • Supervise pupil / child self‑administration of medication. You will offer a high level of personal care which will enable the pupil / child to function to their full potential, toileting, administrating medication in line with agreed training procedures and encouraging self‑help and independence.
  • Carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists: speech and language programmes, physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy programmes.
  • Support pupil / child mobility (as defined by moving and handling training) on an emergency/short‑term basis and for low level needs, e.g., to support toileting or short‑term injury such as a broken leg.

Qualifications
  • You are required to have good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people.
  • Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
  • You must have the ability to register with SSSC within 6 months of taking up employment in this role (Early Learning Centres / Primary and Special Schools only) and must complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the registration period.
  • 2 National 5s, or 2 Standard Grades General, or 2 O Grades or equivalent (SCQF Level 4 or above).
  • For Early Learning Centres / Primary and Special Schools only: NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent, or a commitment to achieve it in the first period of registration as required by the employer.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
  • As this role requires SSSC registration, you will have three months to apply for registration.
  • If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months.
  • If you need to achieve a qualification to maintain your SSSC membership, information will be provided if you are appointed. You must ensure you complete the qualification within the specified timeframe.
