Public Sector Audit Director

Department: Audit. Employment Type: Permanent. Location: United Kingdom.

We are expanding our Public Sector audit services within the Sumer group across our UK-wide hubs. With a strong foundation, we're looking to grow our reach across the UK, and to support this expansion, we're seeking an experienced Audit Director to join the team.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity within a growing national firm, offering flexibility, visibility, and real impact.

Although this role can be based anywhere in the UK, we're looking for someone with a strong client-facing presence who can ideally be based in one of our hubs to help build and grow a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing a significant public sector audit portfolio across the UK
  • Leading high-profile audits, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance
  • Providing strategic input into the development of the public sector service line
  • Coaching and mentoring audit managers and senior staff
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships with key public sector bodies
  • Managing engagement profitability and risk
  • Playing a key role in business development and thought leadership
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent with extensive public sector audit experience
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Strategic and commercial thinker, with a passion for delivering service excellence
  • Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
  • Proven ability to grow client relationships and support practice development
  • Excellent technical knowledge and up-to-date understanding of public sector frameworks
