Job summary

Based in the Maintenance & Facilities Unit of the Investment, Assets and Climate Division, you will be responsible for response led and regular inspections of the Council’s non-housing property portfolio to identify and instruct works to be carried out as a part of planned or responsive repairs and maintenance programmes.

Applicants must hold an appropriate construction industry related HNC, or equivalent, will preferably have relevant experience of building construction, and will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of building and civil engineering trades and techniques. You will be mobile throughout the Council area. Membership of a relevant trade body would be advantageous.

You will liaise with premises managers, and with technical & professional staff within Invest Falkirk to discuss repair works, minor planned budgets and other relevant issues that affect the fabric of the properties. You will issue detailed repair instructions to both internal and external contractors, supervise the standard and timely completion of works, assist in the management of minor contracts, assess the condition of council properties and check and agree invoices prior to payment.

You will have the ability to work under pressure on different projects simultaneously and be able to prepare regular progress reports for Coordinators and managers, whilst ensuring regular attendance at premises.

You will respond to emergency requests for necessary fabric repair work and will arrange for appropriate remedial action to be taken. A formal standby scheme is in operation to cover out of hours emergencies and repairs. And the successful applicant will be required to participate in this scheme.
