About the Role

An anonymous local authority in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced and motivated Private Sector Housing Officer to join their Housing and Environmental Health team. This is a vital role focused on ensuring fire safety compliance in high‑rise and medium‑rise residential buildings, protecting residents, and supporting the authority’s housing safety programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake fire safety inspections of high‑rise and medium‑rise residential properties.
  • Assess compliance with the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, and relevant fire safety legislation.
  • Work closely with building owners, managing agents, and residents to ensure remedial actions are implemented.
  • Investigate complaints and service requests relating to fire safety and housing standards.
  • Prepare inspection reports, draft notices, and schedules of defects, specifying remedial works where required.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to prepare evidence, witness statements, and support enforcement proceedings.
  • Provide specialist advice to stakeholders, including emergency services and partner organisations.
  • Represent the authority at internal and external meetings, speaking on behalf of the housing team.
  • Ensure all data is accurate, reliable, and compliant with the authority’s Data Quality Policy.
