About the Role

As a Principal Process Engineer you will be responsible for leading the delivery of all Process Engineering requirements across either a single large/complex project or multiple medium sized/complexity projects. You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be located at Westlakes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline
  • Depending on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team
  • Responsible for the development of key design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams
  • Checking and Approval of calculations including mass, energy and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing
  • Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards
  • Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
  • Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
  • Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
  • Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget
  • Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts
Qualifications
  • At least 8+ years' experience in industry at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level, ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or associated discipline
  • Chartered Member of the IChemE
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied including (but not limited to) Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR etc.
  • Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of process design
  • Ability to undertake technical tasks and also disclose their technical limitations, willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff
