Principal or Associate Consultant - Coastal & Marine Environment

Location: Bristol

Summary

One of the world's leading multi-disciplinary consultancy firms is looking to hire an experienced Principal or Associate consultant to bring their coastal management skills to the business. As a Principal or Associate Consultant, you will play a vital role, collaborating with clients and design teams around the UK, sitting within our Water Management Consultancy practice. You will also lead coastal management across projects in the Aviation, Defense, Energy, Cities & Development, Education, Rail, and Water sectors.

Your role
  • You will be primarily involved in technical coastal work and supporting junior staff in geomorphology, hydrodynamics, flooding, environmental assessments; GIS and technical reporting.
  • You will ensure quality assurance for technical deliverables by checking the work of junior staff, both mentoring and guiding them in the application of coastal management aspects.
  • Contribute to the continued development of our Coastal & Marine Environment technical network.
  • You will actively progress a suite of projects under your control, and manage and supervise junior resources.
  • You will develop and agree scopes of services, costs, and resources, and support project managers and directors by following project procedures, including financial and change control.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with scientists, modellers, engineers, and planners, and provide a consistent service to clients, and you will be managing your workload and overseeing that of others.
  • Be asked to help support business development activities, including tendering for projects and client / stakeholder engagement.
About you
  • You should have experience in delivering coastal projects with a focus on hydrodynamics, geomorphology, environment, options development or adaptation, and the confidence to lead technical work as well as mentor junior team members in developing their skills.
  • Chartered Engineer, Scientist or Environmentalist.
  • Proficient in interpreting and / or undertaking wave, tide and sediment transport numerical modelling; empirical methods; data analysis (historic trends, sediment budget etc); GIS with ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS; development and assessment of adaptive and resilient management approaches for the coast.
  • Experience in developing and leading technical teams.
  • Experience in managing your own workload and that of others.
  • Experience of supporting junior staff - guiding and training them for a career in the coastal & marine environment field.
  • You should have a strong desire to learn and innovate across various challenges, be able to develop new approaches to a wide range of problems, as well as take on new challenges and learn new skills.
  • You should be well-organized and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A desire to consistently work to high standards is crucial.
