Overview
Job Title: Principal Drainage Engineer
Location: Dorset, UK
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct detailed flood risk assessments, ensuring compliance with local and national policies.
- Develop comprehensive drainage strategy reports for a diverse range of projects.
- Provide expert advice on the management of surface water and the mitigation of flood risk within development proposals.
- Contribute to the design process from inception to completion, ensuring that all drainage-related matters are integrated into the project design in a timely manner.
- Liaise with a variety of stakeholders including clients, local authorities, statutory bodies, and members of the public to communicate project intentions and secure necessary consents.
- Conduct public consultations and exhibitions to garner support and address concerns related to drainage aspects of projects.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in drainage engineering with a consultancy or relevant industry.
Skills and Experience
- Proficient knowledge of flood risk assessments, detailed drainage design, and water management.
- Familiar with relevant legislation, technical guidance, and best practices within the industry.
- Experience in leading a team and managing complex projects with a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Capable of delivering presentations, writing reports, and navigating the planning process.
- Competence in using industry-standard software for drainage design and hydraulic modeling.
