Principal C&I Engineer (Fire & Gas Systems) - Contract - West Wales / Hybrid
Location: West Wales / Hybrid
This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering business during a period of continued growth as they support the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Renewable Energy, Hydrogen and Nuclear sectors. Fire and Gas experience at both FEED and detailed design stages is essential. TUV Certified status would be a bonus, though not essential.
Our client is based in West Wales and can accommodate a hybrid working pattern.
Role & Responsibilities
- Leading the design of fire and gas systems, including design specifications, cause and effect diagrams, and system architecture.
- Performing safety specification and certification of safety instrumented systems.
- Selecting and specifying instruments suitable to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Designing C&I systems with a specific focus on fire and gas detection and suppression systems.
- Responsible for design of cause and effect diagrams, hazardous area instrumentation, and safety regulations in high‑risk environments.
- Carry out SIL Verification using simplified equations.
- Checking the quality of design work to ensure compliance with agreed client design specifications.
- Preparation and checking of deliverables including drawings, schedules, datasheets, specifications, (input to control philosophies and narratives if applicable).
- Development of C&I standard procedures, templates and protocols for consulting activities.
- Responsible for engineering design and assessment in line with client expectations as well as supporting others within the team.
- May be required to provide input into HAZOP / HAZIDs.
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Must be degree qualified, chartered status desired but not essential.
- Fire and Gas experience at both FEED and detailed design stages is essential.
- Previously worked on design projects in the Oil & Gas, Petrochem, or Renewable Energy industries.
- Experience of C&I equipment and its application in conventional and safety applications.
- Familiarity with relevant UK safety regulations and standards.
- TUV Certification would be a distinct advantage, but not essential.
