Job Overview

The Health Informatics Development Team consists of an agile DevOps team and a DataOps team focused on delivering IT‑enabled change and the technical operation of a complex information management environment. This role is for a senior technical and development lead on the DevOps team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide less experienced developers, provide code reviews, and enforce best practices in coding and design.
  • Collaborate with Trust experts to design scalable, maintainable application architectures.
  • Work closely with project managers, stakeholders, and team members to align project goals.
  • Collaborate with cross‑Trust developers to understand application requirements and design efficient databases in stand‑alone and shared environments.
  • Design and maintain database systems, configure hardware, and optimize database performance.
  • Implement security protocols to protect data from unauthorized access or breaches.
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and efficient resource management.
  • Continuously monitor databases to identify and resolve issues before they impact users.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, version upgrades, and transitions with minimal disruption.
  • Write and review code, implement new features, and ensure software meets functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Document code, design decisions, and development processes to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
  • Research new technologies, improve development processes, and contribute to optimizing the team's workflow.
Required Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in SQL and database management systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
  • Ability to design normalized, relational, and sometimes non‑relational databases.
  • Knowledge of database encryption, access controls, and other security best practices.
  • Experience in performance tuning techniques such as indexing, caching, and load balancing.
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting issues in database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to explain complex technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders.
