Job description
Primary Teaching Assistant

Want meaningful impact this year?

Run sharp, targeted interventions that help pupils catch up and keep up.

  • Primary Teaching Assistant
  • Immediate start until July 2026
  • £81 - £94 per day
  • ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
  • Provide 1:1 and small group intervention sessions to under‑achievers
The Role:

You will plan and deliver short, high‑impact sessions that link directly to class teaching. In reading you will build phonics fluency, word recognition and comprehension using matched texts. In writing you will model clear sentences, tighten punctuation and support quick editing routines. In maths you will secure number facts, place value and written methods, then apply them to simple problem solving. You will pre‑teach key vocabulary before new topics, run retrieval checks to keep knowledge fresh and record concise outcomes after each session. You will liaise daily with the class teacher so your next steps match upcoming objectives and assessments. You will keep resources organised, uphold behaviour and safeguarding procedures and support smooth starts and transitions.

The Candidate & Requirements:

You explain ideas in small steps, keep pupils focused and fade prompts as independence grows.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication, confident written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS, already held or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education or with children, commitment to inclusion and progress.
  • Experience working with children is desirable but not essential.
The School:

This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary runs consistent routines from arrival to home time. Phonics and guided reading have protected time each day. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with regular low‑stakes checks so methods are consistent across classes. Year teams co‑plan and share model texts, worked examples and lean intervention packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your sessions dovetail with classroom teaching. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite‑size CPD and focused coaching with practical next moves.
