About the Role

St Mary's Urgent Treatment Centre in central Portsmouth is a modern, GP‑led service seeing around 6,000 patients a month. We are offering an experienced primary care nurse or paramedic the opportunity to join our team through a 12‑month Primary Care Transition Programme, leading into an autonomous Urgent Care Practitioner role. This programme will develop your competency in minor illness and minor injury care under structured training, supervision and in‑practice learning.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll spend the majority of your week delivering high‑quality clinical care to patients presenting with minor illnesses and injuries, while dedicating protected time to:

  • Assess, investigate and diagnose minor illness and injury
  • Interpret X‑rays and point‑of‑care tests
  • Prescribe for acute presentations
  • Identify and manage emergencies
  • Support and develop colleagues, trainees and the wider team

Upon completion of the competency portfolio you will progress into a fully autonomous Urgent Care Practitioner role.

  • Registered nurse or paramedic with strong primary or urgent care experience
  • Passion for delivering safe, effective and compassionate patient care
  • Confidence to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Commitment to learning and development of advanced urgent care skills
