Job description
Overview

A Pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician apprentice is employed on a fixed term Apprentice Agreement for 24 months. The contract is designed to provide a set of competencies, work experience and a qualification that could lead to employment within the pharmaceutical sector. The apprenticeship will commence in February 2026, subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in order to comply with NHS Employment Check Standards. The trust will support flexible working where possible, including options such as part-time hours.

Last year over 90% of all apprentices completing apprenticeships with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals went on to work with us. The role involves working under the direction of registered Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians within multidisciplinary teams, assisting in the provision and preparation of medicines to meet patient needs.

We provide a learning pathway that supports your ongoing career progression and includes collaboration with Bradford College on a day release basis over two years, with virtual classroom sessions taught by college tutors and workplace specialists. You will complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision and preparation of medicines to meet patient needs, under the direction of registered Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Apply respect and confidentiality, work well in a team, be courteous and professional, maintain a safe working environment, and contribute to safeguarding of patients.
  • Maintain accuracy when preparing and dispensing medicines and work within your own limitations, recognising when to seek guidance.
  • Engage in day-to-day duties across the pharmacy department, including exposure to both acute and specialty settings.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Commitment to completing a 24-month training program and the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Attendance at Bradford College on a day-release basis over two years; completion of a portfolio of evidence.
  • Ability to declare that information in the application is true and complete; read and follow guidance on AI usage as advised.
  • UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.
  • Good communication, strong teamwork, and the ability to work within your own limitations.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment checks and comply with NHS requirements; the Trust is subject to Skilled Worker sponsorship rules and eligibility criteria.
