Job description

We are seeking a part time Practice nurse 20 hours per week, for a 12 month maternity cover from February 2026 until January 2027.

The Practice Nurse should have skills in vaccinations, cytology, phlebotomy, and desirable skills in respiratory medicine and travel vaccinations.

Main duties of the job

Vaccinations, cytology, phlebotomy, respiratory medicine, travel vaccinations. However, training and mentorship would be provided for the right candidate.

We are a GP practice, based in Didsbury, Manchester looking for an enthusiastic Practice nurse to join our existing team of nurses and HCAs with a current list size of approximately 16,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

Job summary: The post holder is responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence‑based practice for patients presenting with long‑term conditions, and the provision of preventative health care to the practice population. As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision‑making in the management of patients. They will work collaboratively within the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures, and provide nurse leadership as required.

Qualifications
  • Registered first level nurse
  • Community nursing specialist qualification or equivalent
  • Clinical supervision training and experience
  • Independent/supplementary nurse prescribing qualification

  • Clinical leadership skills
  • Clinical skills: cervical cytology, immunisation and vaccination, ear care, minor surgery
  • Change‑management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle
  • Communication skills: both written and verbal

Experience
