Job description

We are seeking an outstanding clinician-educator to take on the role of Practice Education Lead (PEL) - MBBS, providing strategic oversight of practice and clinical learning for the programme. This is a key academic leadership role within the Division of Medical Education, shaping the quality, safety and consistency of clinical placements across primary care, community and secondary care settings. The post holder will work closely with the Programme Director, MBBS Quality Lead, Associate Dean for Partnerships and Placements, Head of Department, and Strategic Practice Leads to ensure that all students have a high-quality, supportive and professionally credible practice learning experience. This role would suit a consultant clinician with significant experience supervising medical students, working with multidisciplinary partners, and contributing to clinical education governance.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Identify new opportunities to expand practice learning capacity across all MBBS placement environments. Work with ADPs and school staff to build and sustain placement provision for the MBBS programme. Liaise with Link Lecturers and clinical colleagues regarding practice education issues, student support, and escalation concerns. Ensure policies and processes relating to Raising and Escalating Concerns are consistently followed. Contribute to incident review, reporting and collation for ADPs, escalating where appropriate. Engage with Student-Staff Liaison Committees on clinical issues. Ensure completion and quality of Educational Audits/Reviews of practice areas, meeting PSRB requirements. Support training and updates for
  • Coordinate the updating of placement-related information for students and clinical partners. Liaise closely with placements and academic teams on student allocation and mapping. Support evaluation, review and continuous quality monitoring of practice placements. Act as coordinator for students requiring reasonable adjustments. Serve as a point of advice and support for Link Lecturers. Contribute to Practice Education Committee activity and policy development. Work with the MBBS Senior Leadership Team on placement feedback and action planning.
