Job summary

Policy & Research Officer

Location: Belfast

Salary: £37,694 per annum

Contract: Temporary until 31st March 2026

Hours: 37 per week, office-based

VANRATH are delighted to be working with a respected public body seeking an experienced Research Officer to join their Policy, Research & Engagement Directorate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in law, policy, or research who has a genuine interest in equality, human rights, and social policy.

The Role

The successful candidate will support a wide range of research and policy activities, contributing to the development of evidence-based recommendations and high-quality written outputs. Duties will include:

  • Assisting in the development of policy recommendations arising from research activity
  • Preparing draft briefing papers, policy submissions and speaking notes for senior leadership
  • Monitoring and tracking legislative and policy developments across NI, Westminster and EU institutions
  • Reviewing draft papers and providing constructive feedback
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and external communications
  • Drafting leaflets, publications and contributing to investigations and report writing
The Ideal Candidate

This role will particularly suit someone who can demonstrate:

  • Qualifications or experience in law, public policy, or research
  • A strong interest in equality law, social policy, law reform and human rights
  • Understanding of government and legislative processes (NI, Westminster or EU)
  • Confidence working with areas such as disability and race law reform, employment policy and childcare strategy
  • A collaborative approach, curiosity to learn, and a proactive "can-do" attitude
