Job description
Location and Salary

SM2 5PJ, Sutton, London, South East, UK – Mechanical Engineer (Level 3) at HMP High Down (SM2).

Salary: £43,177.30 + an additional 5% salary in recognition of shift and weekend working (1 weekend in 3 with rest days given).

Contract: Full Time – Perm (39 hours per week).

Role Overview

We are seeking an NVQ Level 3 qualified Plumber to join our team at HMP Highdown, a category C adult male prison.

The Facilities Maintenance Team is committed to driving smooth and safe operations. As a Mechanical Engineer you will work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues from various trades and dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform plumbing and domestic heating duties in line with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
  • Execute planned preventive maintenance operations for water and building service systems.
  • Apply relevant health and safety requirements and support safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Team to deliver effective and reliable facility services.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent certifications, e.g., C&G 6189 Plumbing and domestic heating, C&G 5962 Advanced craft, C&G 6019 Mechanical Engineering services.
  • Two years’ experience working as a plumber or equivalent, with experience on commercial or industrial heating, water or building service systems.
  • Good working knowledge of planned preventive maintenance operations and health and safety requirements.
  • Experience working to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
  • Desirable: Unvented water heater vessel course G3; L8 awareness training.
