Power Plant Operator – Overview

Location: Cornwall

Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 (Dependent on Experience) + 20% Shift Allowance + Benefits

Hours: Full-time | Shift pattern: 2 Days, 2 Nights, 4 Rest Days (7-week cycle)

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations & Monitoring

  • Manage the safe and efficient start-up and shutdown of critical plant equipment, including generators and auxiliary systems.
  • Operate equipment in full compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor plant systems and make real-time adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain auxiliary systems such as pumps, fans, compressors, and filters.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct first-line maintenance and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safe isolation procedures and permit-to-work systems.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance tasks including cleaning and lubrication.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow established safety protocols across all operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and operational activities.
  • Report incidents and ensure all procedures meet regulatory and company standards.

Communication & Reporting

  • Work effectively within the operations team, reporting key issues to supervisory staff.
  • Keep detailed and accurate logs, reports, and operational data.
  • Remain calm, professional, and solutions-oriented at all times.
What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Apprentice trained or ONC/HNC qualified in Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or similar).
  • Experience working within a power generation environment or a comparable industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and permit-to-work systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and confident with technical documentation.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available).

Desirable:

  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience within electricity generation or a related field.
  • Interest in renewable energy and contributing to a low-carbon future.
  • Comfortable working at heights and with mobile plant equipment (following training).
