Job summary

A local government authority in Wales seeks dedicated Placement Support Workers to join their fostering service. Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of care‑experienced children and their carers? We are looking for committed, proactive individuals to join our Placement Support Team within Bridgend’s fostering service.

About the Role:

As a Placement Support Worker, you will deliver direct, intensive support to children and young people in foster placements, those returning home, and their carers. You will work as part of a dedicated team that helps to maintain placement stability, support reunification, and improve outcomes for children.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver 1:1 and group interventions to children, young people, and their carers
  • Support with crisis management, behaviour regulation, and placement planning
  • Work in partnership with social workers, foster carers, and families
  • Chair family network meetings and contribute to care planning
  • Provide continuity of support and advice to foster families
  • Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota to support families
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards Level 4)
  • Experience of direct work with children, young people, and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and current social care legislation
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Flexible, strengths‑based approach to support work
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
  • Ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh
  • Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees
  • Enhanced Childrens & Adults Barred list DBS check
Other Requirements:

Hybrid Working – you will undertake working hours between your home and the office. A valid driving licence is a requirement. Weekend working and standby duties are also required.
