Job description

Were looking for a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomistto become an integral part of our multidisciplinary primary care team. Workingunder the guidance of the Nurse Manager, you'll play a vital role in supportinghigh quality patient care by delivering safe, effective venepuncture servicesand assisting the nursing team when required.

This is a role where your contribution trulymatters. Youll be supported with access to clinical supervision, ongoingguidance, and a named point of contact within the organisation to ensure youfeel confident and equipped in your daytoday work.

Thursday: 8:00-14:00

Friday: 8:00-14:00

Main duties of the job

As our phlebotomist, you will:

  • Carry out venepuncture for our entitled patient population in line with practice protocols
  • Provide flexible support to the nursing team as needed
  • Work collaboratively within a friendly, supportive general practice environment
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism at all times

Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

Clinical Duties

  • Obtaining informed patient consent prior to blood collection
  • Performing venepuncture safely and efficiently
  • Labelling, packaging, and storing samples correctly
  • Ensuring specimens are logged accurately and dispatched promptly
  • Maintaining clear, accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
  • Liaising effectively with NHS Trust laboratory staff
  • Acting as a chaperone when required
  • Managing clinical waste and sharps bins in line with IPC policies
  • Working within national and local clinical protocols
  • Supporting the nursing team and seeking guidance when needed
  • Contributing to shared learning and participating in local service improvement initiatives
  • Assisting the administrative team on an asrequired basis
  • Being an active, positive member of the general practice team

  • Completing all mandatory training and induction programmes
  • Participating in audits and quality improvement activities
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment
  • Adhering to safeguarding policies for adults and children
  • Attending annual appraisals and working towards agreed objectives

  • Following opening and closing procedures according to the duty rota
