Overview

Medical Secretary – Digestive & Emergency Surgery at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Band 4).

This post is open to employees of the five LAASP organisations. As part of your application, you will be asked to confirm that you are a current employee of The Clatterbridge Centre, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Liverpool University Hospitals, Liverpool Women’s Hospital or The Walton Centre.

The appointee will work within the Digestive & Emergency Surgery Care Group and join an established secretarial team with a commitment to improving patient experience.

Location: Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. It serves a core population of around 630,000 people with specialist services for a catchment area of over two million.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to consultants, speciality teams, nurse practitioners and clinicians.
  • Diary management, arrange appointments, travel and accommodation.
  • Maintain an effective bring-forward and filing system; manage 18 week pathways including tertiary referrals, ensure accurate recording on PAS, and monitor referrals to ensure prompt review; coordinate follow-ups with RTT pathways.
  • Mentor, train and supervise relevant staff as required.
  • Process annual leave requests and sickness absence return-to-work interviews.
  • Support consultants in non-clinical activities by preparing presentation documents and arranging meetings, including setting agendas.
  • Organise and maintain consultant admissions, update waiting lists, liaise with waiting list office, anaesthetic department and ward; manage theatre lists as appropriate.
  • Type dictation from audio transcription of clinical correspondence and documentation; type discharge summaries as required; track inpatient referrals for prompt review.
  • Check clinical letters to ensure follow-up arrangements/investigations are in place.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • AMS PAR course or equivalent is expected; experience in a medical environment and good knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience using EPRO (clinic letter tool) would be advantageous.
