Job summary

A local care service in Dover is looking for a dedicated individual to support a non-verbal child in their community. The role involves engaging in activities like walks and social events while ensuring the child's safety and personal care. Ideal candidates should have experience with non-verbal children, understand ADHD and autism, and be physically fit. The position offers £13 per hour, with flexible hours during term and non-term time.

Job description
Job purpose

To support my child typically outside of the home and socially within the community. Will typically involve going for walks, to parks familiar to him with the occasional opportunity to take him for dinner, shopping etc.

Work duties
  • Being flexible to adapt to his preferences on what he wants to do and recognising his cues for this e.g. wanting to leave the park or allowing him to lead the way on a walk with no obvious destination.
  • Supporting him both inside and outside of the home and supporting him transitioning from one to the other.
  • Helping them to develop social skills
  • Being responsible for his personal care needs e.g. Changing his incontinence pants, helping him clean himself up after a meal, assisting him in changing his clothing when required.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the child and their parents, maintaining confidentiality. Following his cues for his wants and needs due to being non-verbal and sometimes anticipating his needs if he can’t communicate them himself.
  • Always ensuring the safety of the child
  • Being physically fit, he is a very active child and prefers to be outside going on long walks and going to the park.
Requirements for applicant
  • Experience with non verbal children is desired
  • Understanding of ADHD essential
  • Flexible, reliable and honest
  • Physically fit, agile and energetic
  • Understanding of autism essential
  • DBS Check will be completed
Location and availability

Location – Dover, Kent

Number of PA roles available - 1 however also willing to explore job sharing if a good fit

£13 per hour

Term Time – 5 hours per week

Non-Term Time - 10 hours per week
