Job description
Personal Assistant (mainly driving support) for a person P/T@ £17.50/hr in Roundhay, Leeds
Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: 643f0542

We are looking for a personal assistant on a part time basis to support the main home maker (male early 60's) whose abilities are restricted post a stroke. Activities which require support include:

  • School runs from Leeds to York and back (Tuesday pm, Wednesday am, Thursday pm as standard)
  • Shopping and other house/domestic related trips as required
  • Help with some in-house activities e.g. light gardening, general household tasks including lifting or moving things
  • Guidance/some help with mobility outside due to vision restrictions e.g. pointing out hazards, kerbs, traffic etc and in bad weather due to failing risk
  • Other appointments outside of the home such as hospital, leisure activities, after school clubs (Tuesday evening and Thursday evenings)

Skills/qualities wanted

Being an experienced car driver and someone who enjoys driving is essential.

We are looking for someone with a good sense of humour and a kind nature, who is organised/with good organisational skills and can provide support in the above activities where required but who can also stand back and supervise to allow the individual to feel as independent as possible.

We are looking for someone who is social in nature and will happily enter into interesting conversations/discussions around everyday topics such as current affairs, travel, TV, cooking etc. Other interests include nature related activities e.g. fishing, spending time on the beach, bird watching.

Needs to be comfortable in dealing with children (we have an 11 year old boy). Whilst it is anticipated that journeys with our son would be accompanied, if for any reason this wasn't possible e.g. illness, fatigue of the home maker, we would want to feel comfortable that the journey could continue unsupervised.

Would potentially suit someone recently retired who is looking for some additional income and we would be happy to look at splitting the role to find the right candidates.

Start date: ideally January 2026 but we would consider earlier/later for the right applicant.

How much will you pay per hour/how many hours

Hourly rate is £17.50 per hour and we anticipate between 15 to 20 hours of support a week but the role means that there is likely to be a degree of flexibility required. We are happy to consider splitting the role to provide more flexibility for the right candidate.

School run support during term time is essential and comprises the following:

  • Tuesday pm – 3pm leave Roundhay and travel to York and back for after school club in Seacroft (drop off 17.15 and pick up 19.15)
  • Wednesday am – 6.50/7am leave Roundhay and travel to York and back. Typically back by 9am.
  • Thursday pm – 3pm leave Roundhay and travel to York and back for after school club in Seacroft (drop off 17.15 and pick up 19.15)

It is possible that support with the school may sometimes be required on a Monday or Friday morning although we are hoping to manage these two journeys ourselves, it is possible that we might request occasional assistance on these days.

We anticipate scheduling other support e.g. shopping trips around the above as much as possible and would be open to agreeing something mutually acceptable with the right candidate.

We would also contribute to fuel costs (the individual will need to ensure they have business cover on their car insurance) or allow the individual to drive our vehicle.

Location

We live in Roundhay and so someone who lives nearby would be ideal to make sure it's easy to travel to us particularly given the early morning travel on a Wednesday morning.
