Personal Assistant / Carer

WEEKENDS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

We are looking for a responsible, energetic and engaging person to work as a Personal Assistant for our 18-year-old son with additional needs, during weekends and school holiday times. He is a very happy, healthy active boy.

Ideal for

(Ideal for but not essential) Students wanting experience and psychology students, or someone working with SEN students in a school or college.

Responsibilities
  • Go out into the community using public transport for functional activities, such as food shopping and to the barbers.
  • Go out to organised activities, such as disability sports groups and a youth club.
  • Teach how to use his mobile phone when out and about.
  • Support with brushing teeth, washing hands/face, comb hair and eating.
  • Develop independence skills such as cooking, tidying bedroom etc.
  • Reading books at home.

Hours and rate

Ideally the applicant will be able to work during weekends and school holidays (not school days).

  • School term time weekends: Up to 13 hours per week across Saturday and Sunday
  • School Holiday weeks: Up to 36 hours per week, to be arranged on various days throughout the week and the weekend

Hourly gross rate: £13.85 (National Insurance paid by Local Authority)

Please note: if you are only able to commit to weekends or holiday weeks, that could also be an option.

Expenses
  • Oyster Card will be provided for public transport
  • Cost of activities will be covered by family
Training
  • Parents will provide full training and will shadow all activities until such times as both parties are comfortable with the PA being left alone with our son.
  • DBS check will be required (the successful applicant will have a DBS check carried out by local authority at no cost to the applicant)
