We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Peripatetic Manager to support our portfolio of older people’s care homes in our North Region. This critical role focuses on stabilising services, improving quality outcomes and providing short-term leadership cover where Home Manager vacancies exist.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished Registered Manager with a strong track record of turning around underperforming services and leading teams through periods of change.
Purpose of the Role
- To provide hands‑on leadership and management support to care homes experiencing quality, compliance or performance challenges.
- To cover vacant Home Manager roles on an interim basis, ensuring continuity of safe, effective care with the expectation of being the registered home manager in the absence of a permanent home manager.
- To drive improvements in care quality, governance and regulatory outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Take temporary management responsibility for care homes where quality concerns or leadership gaps exist.
- Lead and deliver turnaround plans to address CQC compliance, safeguarding, staffing or operational issues.
- Prepare homes for CQC inspections and support post‑inspection action plans.
- Provide strong leadership to care teams, embedding best practice and regulatory compliance.
- Mentor and coach Home Managers and senior teams to build long‑term capability.
- Ensure safe staffing levels, effective rotas and robust care planning are in place.
- Work closely with central support teams to implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain clear documentation, governance and reporting during periods of intervention.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including local authorities, CQC, families and other professionals.
- Handover effectively to permanent managers once stability and quality improvements are achieved.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Registered Manager of older people’s care homes, including medium to large services.
- Strong track record of turning around quality and compliance issues in care homes.
- In‑depth knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding and quality frameworks.
- Confident leading services through inspection, improvement and change.
- Excellent leadership, communication and decision‑making skills.
- Flexible and resilient, able to adapt quickly to different environments and teams.
- Willing and able to travel extensively and stay away from home when required due to location.
Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Registered Nurse Qualified (desirable).
- Current or previous Registered Manager registration with the CQC (essential).
