We are building a company that people are proud to belong to.
This is a full-time, permanent role, reporting to the CEO
Location: This is a hybrid role, but as you will be required to spend 2–3 days per week at our Gatwick office, it is expected that your commute to Manor Royal, Crawley, would take no longer than about 1 hour. The position also entails occasional travel to our other UK sites.
Why this role exists
NuServe is a values‑led, independent B Corp with revenues approaching £15m and a clear ambition to reach £30m by 2030 — while becoming the most loved brand in Facilities Management.
That ambition is powered by people.
As we grow, we need trust, care, clarity and high standards to scale with us. The People Director will ensure our values are lived day‑to‑day, that performance and humanity grow together, and that our culture and values remain a strength, not a slogan.
This is a hands‑on Executive role for someone who wants to build something meaningful — not just manage a steady state. It will require a strategic mindset as well as strong relationship management at all levels within the organisation. Flexibility, change management and transformation will all feature highly as we strengthen and grow our business together.
Who this role is for
This role suits someone stepping into broader Executive responsibility in a growing business, rather than someone who has already “done it all” in a large corporate environment.
You may currently be a Senior HR Business Partner, Head of People or People Lead in a multi‑site organisation. What matters most is your trajectory, judgement and intent rather than your job title.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Earns trust at Executive level through depth, credibility and purposeful partnering
- Has the energy to shape, not inherit
- Is committed to growing with the business long‑term
- Wants to stay, build and belong for 5+ years
This is not a stepping‑stone role. It is a foundation role.
The kind of People Director we’re looking for
At NuServe, care and rigour go hand in hand. You will:
- Be a role model and lead with empathy, fairness, inclusion and integrity
- Be calm, grounded and trusted in difficult moments
- Confidently uphold standards and handle challenging conversations
- Coach high‑performing, analytical leaders to be clearer, warmer and more consistent
- Understand that how leadership feels matters as much as how it functions
You don’t need to be loud or charismatic — but you do need to be deeply human, quietly confident and commercially aware.
What you’ll be responsible for
1. Building a high‑trust leadership culture
- Partner with the CEO and Executive Team to strengthen trust, collaboration and role clarity
- Coach leaders to consistently model NuServe’s values and Teamship Code
- Support the evolution of leadership behaviours as the business scales
2. Owning Employment Relations with confidence and care
- Personally lead complex ER cases involving salaried employees
- Provide guidance and escalation support for frontline ER matters
- Ensure policies and processes are legally sound and tribunal‑ready
- Prepare the business for upcoming UK employment law changes
- Equip managers to act fairly, confidently and consistently
3. Strengthening engagement, performance and retention
- Redesign performance management around regular feedback and clarity
- Introduce and embed an effective Employee Net Satisfaction Programme with closed‑loop action planning
- Reduce voluntary attrition through stronger leadership and communication
- Help leaders identify and address issues early
4. Raising the bar on recruitment and onboarding
- Improve quality of hire, speed to competence and cultural fit
- Ensure onboarding is thoughtful, professional and aligned to our brand
- Strengthen collaboration between People and Operations during mobilisation
- Track and improve retention and time‑to‑productivity
5. Bringing discipline and insight to People data
- Lead the selection and implementation of a new HRIS
- Build a simple, meaningful People dashboard (attrition, absence, engagement, ER, quality of hire, profit per FTE)
- Partner with Finance to link people outcomes to commercial performance
What success looks like
Within 12–18 months:
- Leaders are clearer, more confident and more consistent
- People genuinely feel NuServe lives its values
- ER is handled calmly, fairly and without drama
- Engagement and retention are improving
- The People function is trusted, effective and easy to work with
- Systems are simple, reliable and used
- The Executive Team feels stronger, more aligned and better supported
What we’re looking for
- Senior People or HR leadership experience
- Background in multi‑site, frontline or service‑led environments
- Strong ER capability and UK employment law knowledge
- CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent experience)
- High emotional intelligence, warmth and integrity
- Commercially aware and comfortable using people data to inform key business decisions
- Practical, hands‑on approach with high personal standards
Why join NuServe
- A values‑led B Corp where people genuinely matter
- A real Executive role with trust and influence
- The chance to build something lasting in a high‑growth business
- Development alongside an ambitious leadership team
- Equity participation and long‑term opportunity
- A culture built on care, clarity and doing the right thing
