Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon.
We are seeking a passionate experienced People and Culture Advisor to join our team in London. This is a busy role and we are looking for someone to support MAP’s P&C Team by delivering proactive, high‑quality HR advice, acting as a trusted advisor to our managers and staff across designated areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides HR advice tailored to each region in line with legal frameworks, ensuring compliance with local labour laws and organisational policies.
- Acts as the first point of contact for all employee relations matters, supporting managers on best practice.
- Provides HR advice and support on all family leave matters, including maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and parental leave, ensuring compliance with local labour laws and organisational policies.
- Collaborates with managers to define role requirements and make recommendations on best recruitment processes to attract top talent.
- Leads the end‑to‑end recruitment process, including drafting job descriptions, posting vacancies, shortlisting candidates, and coordinating interviews.
- Manages the onboarding process, ensuring new employees are welcomed, equipped, and integrated smoothly into the organisation.
- Monitors and evaluates recruitment and onboarding practices, identifying areas for improvement to enhance employee engagement and talent retention.
- Contributes to the development of HR policies, ensuring consistent application across regions.
- Collaborates on comprehensive policy guides and toolkits to support managers and employees, including monthly HR drop‑in sessions.
- Maintains accurate and up‑to‑date HR records using MAP’s HRIS.
- Generates regular and ad‑hoc reports on key HR metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Provides support and guidance to the People & Culture Officer and People & Culture Assistant, allocating work and ensuring they deliver against assigned tasks.
- Leads and/or contributes to People‑related projects as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications
- Good level of higher education with relevant certifications in human resources, social studies, business management or a related field.
Knowledge / Experience
- Demonstrable experience in human resources, preferably within the INGO sector or charity sector.
- Experience in administering the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll and employee relations.
- Experience delivering tailored advice that balances legal compliance with business needs.
- Experience reviewing and updating policies to reflect legislative changes and organisational priorities.
- Strong understanding of UK and regional employment labour laws, best practice including disciplinary, grievance and absence management.
- Understanding of MAP’s work and the issues facing Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.
Skills
- Ability to advise, influence and guide managers through sensitive employee matters in line with HR policies and procedures.
- Strong stakeholder management with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build trust across all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice on people matters and handle sensitive situations with diplomacy.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy across all operational processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse remote teams and build a positive workplace culture under challenging conditions.
- Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret data for reporting to trustees and SMT.
- Organisational and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Ability to work within a complex international organisation.
