Job description
About GFC

At GFC, we’re a community of passionate fishermen founded in 1950. As a 100% member-owned cooperative, we’re committed to camaraderie, sustainability, and contributing to the seafood industry.

Why GFC?
  • Rock Lobster Royalty: We are the world’s largest rock lobster processor, handling a large portion of Western Australia’s commercial rock lobster catch.
  • Coastal Connections: Operations span WA’s coastline from Kalbarri to Augusta, deeply connected to these communities.
  • Economic Impact: We contribute to the WA economy and value sustainable economic growth.
What GFC looks for in employees
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a rapidly changing, highly seasonal environment.
  • Cooperative Spirit: Inspired by the 7 Co-Operative principles and community impact.
  • Collaboration Across Horizons: Build strong relationships across sites, with limited daily face-to-face interactions.
  • Value Creators: Spot opportunities and translate them into value.
About the role

We’re looking for a dynamic team member to join our People, Culture & Capability team—either ready to step into an advisory capacity or actively developing toward that level. You’ll be hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable working in a small, agile team.

This generalist role offers exposure to a broad range of HR functions including:

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Support seasonal recruitment of our large casual workforce, peaking in October/November.
  • Employee Relations: Provide guidance to managers and employees on workplace issues, conflict resolution and performance concerns.
  • Employee Lifecycle Activities: Look after employees at all stages of their employment.
  • Policy Interpretation and Advice: Advise on People Policies, procedures and award interpretation.
  • HR Reporting and Insights: Assist with preparation of reports and data analysis.
  • Learning & Development: Assist in enhancing L&D systems and processes.
What We’re Looking For

Whether you’re an experienced HR Advisor or a HR Coordinator with a drive for development, we’d love to hear from you. We offer flexible working arrangements and location options (Geraldton, Fremantle and Welshpool). You will need to be willing to travel to all sites on various days of the week to service our teams effectively.

  • Developing into an advisory role, or already there—but willing to contribute to transactional work.
  • Highly organised, systems-focused, and quick to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple sites.
  • Comfortable working in a seasonal, fast-paced environment.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
  • Generalist HR experience with the confidence to support and advise on people-related matters.
  • Organised and methodical approach to administration and record-keeping.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in MS Office.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Formal Qualifications in Business or Human Resources.
  • Experience using HR Information Systems or a strong systems background (UKG Ready).
