Overview

Role - Peer Mentor - Martha's Mammies (Justice Services)

Location - GCHSCP, Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Rd, Glasgow, G5 0PQ

Hours and Shift Pattern - 17.5hrs per week to be worked across Tue - Thur within the hours of 08:45 - 16:45, with there being some flexibility re start / finish times

Contract Status - Temporary, up to 31st March 2027

About the Service

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) are looking to recruit a Social Care Worker within Martha's Mammies which is a multi-disciplinary project that aims to offer holistic, person-centred, strengths-based support utilizing a trauma informed, assertive outreach approach to engage with birth mothers who have lost care of their children. The service operates a one stop shop where the main aims are:

  • Safety and stabilisation work with women
  • To support women to reduce problematic alcohol and/or drug use
  • To support women to improve health outcomes and engage with relevant health services including GP, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services and Sexual Health, where relevant
  • To support women to engage with Children's Services and processes in respect to their children
  • To increase women's confidence to believe change is possible
  • To help women develop resilience and build on strengths
  • To empower women to meet their own needs
  • To enable women to access local community resources

The team consists of social care staff, mental health nurse, FGDM link worker and lived experience volunteers. The team works closely with, and share resources with, Tomorrow's Women Glasgow (TWG).

Responsibilities
  • The peer mentor role has a responsibility for: Providing support to vulnerable women using the service on an outreach basis.
  • Supporting day to day living tasks and offering advice to enhance health and living standards.
  • Supporting women engaged with service to attend appointments / services such as GP, Housing, Benefits etc.
  • Participate and contribute to therapeutic groupwork activity programmes (Arts & Crafts, Music, health and wellbeing, food preparation etc)
  • Liaise with colleagues within the HSCP for onward referrals, if required
  • Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.
  • These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
