PBS Practitioner

Compensation: £35,000 / year

Mildmay Oaks is looking to recruit a PBS Practitioner to join the team. We have a Rehabilitation and Recovery (R&R) 26 beds, male and female, 18+, Secure 14 beds, male, 18+ and a BTPs Adults and/or young people across our hospital. This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours.

Set in a semi-rural location in Hook, Hampshire, Priory Hospital Mildmay Oaks supports the NHS by providing low secure services and level 2 rehabilitation services for both male and female patients. This includes specialist learning disability and autism spectrum support. We also offer adult and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), and single-person, bespoke therapeutic placements (BTPs) across our hospital.

As a PBS Practitioner, you will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

What you'll bring to the role

Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. No two days are the same. Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. The ideal candidate will hold a formal qualification in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or a related field (e.g., BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis, or Autism Studies) with experience conducting behavioural assessments and developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions for individuals with challenging behaviour. They will have direct support experience with people with learning disabilities and/or autism, a strong understanding of legal frameworks such as the Mental Health Act (1983), safeguarding, and risk management, and the ability to work in physically and emotionally demanding situations. Strong leadership, excellent written and record-keeping skills, experience delivering PBS training, and a history of reducing restrictive practices are essential. A full driver's license and access to a vehicle for business use are also required.
