Job title: Payroll Administrator


Responsible to: Team Leader


Department: People Services


Location: JD Sports Fashion PLC, Hollins Brook Way, Bury, BL9 8RR


Hours: 40 Hours Per Week, Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday

The Role

The Payroll Administrator is a key supporting role within the Payroll team. You will help ensure our payrolls run smoothly by completing essential administrative tasks, maintaining accurate colleague and payroll data, and assisting with the day-to-day running of the department.


While you will not process payrolls yourself, you will work closely with Payroll Executives and Team Leaders to support the delivery of a first-class payroll service. You will also respond to colleague queries via our ticketing system, helping to provide clear, helpful information in a timely manner.


This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys administration, has a strong eye for detail, and wants to build a career within payroll or People Services. No previous payroll experience is required, as full training will be provided.



Key Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide administrative support to the Payroll team to ensure payrolls for over 30,000 colleagues are delivered smoothly.

  • Maintain and update employee data, payroll records, and supporting documentation with accuracy.

  • Complete a range of payroll and pensions administration tasks, including preparing inputs, filing, record‑keeping, and validation checks.

  • Respond to colleague queries through the ticketing system and by phone, ensuring queries are resolved or escalated appropriately.

  • Support the upkeep of payroll systems and assist with regular data audits.

  • Assist with departmental projects, process improvements, and ongoing initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with Payroll Executives, Payroll Associates, and Team Leaders to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Provide clear explanations to colleagues when helping resolve queries, ensuring information is easy to understand.



Desirable Skills


  • Previous administration experience (any sector).

  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Strong customer‑service approach.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Interest in developing a career in payroll or People Services.
