As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you’ll help us meet our young peoples’ emotional needs. Our young people have challenging complex emotional and behavioural needs [Autistic Spectrum Disorder/Social, Emotional and Mental Health] and require more support than most. You’ll ensure they receive this by applying high standards of care, working with families, and developing personalized programs for each young person. Through careful assessment and planning, you’ll create a positive learning environment where every young person can thrive.
Experience working with young people with BESD or ASD in a school or care setting is essential. You should understand our young peoples’ developmental needs and what pastoral care entails. A good listener who can motivate and work within a team, you inspire young people to achieve. Flexibility and good organizational skills will make you a valuable asset to the Witherslack Group.
Our new Castlefell School is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility catering primarily to children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, as well as children with autism and moderate learning needs. The school educates up to 50 children aged 8 to 16.

You’ll connect with pupils through your experience with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and working with challenging families, along with knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation. Ideally, you’ll hold NVQ 3 in Care or Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification.
