Job description
Overview

Dear prospective applicant,

Thank you for expressing an interest in this key vacancy at our college. Over the last six years we have been on a journey to make this school one of the best places for children to attend and to work. We invite you to come and see us in action, speak to the staff and speak to the students. Every decision is made with thought and consideration and we place well-being at the centre so that teachers can teach and students can learn.

We have been recognised for our work in well-being, including winning the TES Well-being School of the Year and the Silver Award for the Pearsons Award for Secondary School of the Year 2023. These are exciting times to join us and make a difference to the lives of others.

We have a distinctive culture at CHCC where those in leadership earn the right to lead, and we welcome challenge when we do not yet meet the standards expected of us. The THIRST values permeate all that we do and provide a framework for staff to hold leaders to account for how they lead. We provide the support, training and resources for you to deliver the best possible education for our students.

We are clear that the gender, background, colour, poverty, wealth or social status of a child should have no bearing on how well they perform, and staff here work to close the gaps between different pupil groups. We have updated our appraisal process to focus on professional development through visits and a professional dialogue to improve practice, rather than routine lesson observations. This approach aims to create a learning community where teachers can teach and learners can learn without fear. Our headline figures show year-on-year improvement, with initial analysis placing us in the top 12% of schools nationally for progress.

Our behaviour policy is clear: First Time Every Time. Teachers are supported by a central team that manages attendance, absence and punctuality, reducing workload for teachers. When you walk the building during lessons, you will hear the focus on delivery through open doors.

Curriculum is at the forefront of what we do and follows a progression model. We have ensured the curriculum is sequenced so that students are knowing, remembering and therefore able to do more. We are a knowledge-first school, where teachers are subject specialists who impart knowledge to students.

The Maths faculty is made up of 12 teachers. You would be joining a successful team; last year our Progress 8 figure for maths was +0.3 and 75.4% achieved grade 9-4.

Please read our well-being charter for an understanding of the practices we implement to support staff.
