Job description
We're recruiting for a part-time Boar Technician to join a unit in Northumberland, TD12.

This is a hands‑on, physically demanding role that plays a vital part in supporting the business's high‑quality breeding operations.

About the Role

As a Boar Technician, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient collection of semen from boars, following strict animal welfare and hygiene procedures. You will also help move approximately 200 pigs to and from the collection yard as part of the routine schedule.

You don't necessarily have to have pig experience, but you have to be used to heavy work, as it involves moving the pigs around a lot.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect semen from boars in accordance with set protocols
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining the collection area
  • Move pigs between housing units and the collection yard (requires physical stamina)
  • Monitor animal behaviour and welfare throughout the process
  • Maintain accurate records of collections and observations
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and work areas to ensure high biosecurity standards
Person specifications
  • Experience working with livestock (pigs preferred but not essential)
  • Confidence working around large animals
  • Good physical fitness — the role involves strenuous manual tasks
  • Ability to follow procedures with attention to detail
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Salary: From £12.40+ DOE
Hours
  • Part‑time, Thursday and Friday 7am to 5pm
  • Weekend work required
  • Some flexibility may be required depending on farm needs
