Job summary

A reputable consultancy is seeking a Parking Compliance Officer to join Southwark Council. This public-facing role requires excellent communication and customer service skills. Neway International are seeking a Parking Compliance Officer (On‑Street) t to join our client based with Southwark Council.

Location: 160 Tooley Street, Southwark, Surrey, SE1 2QH

Hours: 36 hours per week

Start Date: 02 February 2026

Duration: 12 weeks (initially then likely to be extended)

Employment Type: Temporary

Work Pattern: On‑street role (standard council shift patterns may apply)

Rate: PAYE £20.58 per hour / Umbrella £26.83 per hour

About the Client

Southwark Council’s Parking Service & Development team plays a vital role in maintaining safe, accessible, and well‑managed streets across the borough. The service ensures compliance with parking regulations, supports traffic flow, and contributes to a cleaner, safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Role

The Parking Compliance Officer will work on‑street to ensure adherence to parking and traffic regulations across Southwark. This is a public‑facing role requiring professionalism, resilience, and excellent communication skills. You will patrol designated areas, identify contraventions, issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) where appropriate, and provide guidance to the public. The role supports the wider Parking & Network Management team in maintaining safe and compliant streets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol allocated areas to monitor parking and traffic compliance.
  • Identify and record parking contraventions in line with legislation and council policy.
  • Issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) accurately and professionally.
  • Provide clear information and guidance to members of the public.
  • Report defects, obstructions, or hazards affecting the highway or parking infrastructure.
  • Use handheld devices and council systems to record observations and actions.
  • Support the delivery of safe, accessible, and well‑managed streets.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Parking & Network Management.
  • Represent the council in a professional and customer‑focused manner at all times.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience in a compliance, enforcement, or public‑facing role is desirable.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and assertive in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply parking regulations and local policies.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy in recording information.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Basic IT skills, including use of handheld devices.
