A community-focused dental service in Cornwall is seeking a motivated Part-Time Outreach Dental Nurse to join its team. In this role, you will support outreach dental initiatives, provide care in diverse settings, and promote oral health education to vulnerable populations. As an Outreach Dental Nurse, youll support a range ofcommunity-based dental initiatives, working with patients who may havedifficulty accessing traditional dental services including schools, carehomes, and vulnerable populations.
About the You:
OralHealth Education Qualification
NEBDNCertificate in Fluoride Varnish Application
Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills
Comfortableworking independently and in new environments
Organised,flexible, and committed to delivering care in diverse community settings
Afull driving licence is essential for travel between outreach locations
Experiencein community or outreach dentistry is desirable, but not essential
About the Role:
Assist dental clinicians in delivering care in outreach settings across the county
Support the delivery of our mobile dental services, provided from our MDU across Cornwall
Provide chairside support during community clinics and oral health education sessions
Ensure equipment and materials are prepared and maintained for off-site clinics
Support infection control, patient safety, and safeguarding protocols in non-clinical settings
Help to promote oral health through education and engagement with patients and carers
Maintain accurate patient records and assist with administrative duties related to outreach services

JobSummary:
Avaried, skill-mix role that combines routine dental nursing duties with thedelivery of flexible oral health projects to a variety of patient groupsoutside of the typical surgery environment. This may include working on ourMobile Dental Unit.
Thepost holder will support the delivery of Smile Togethers Outreach programmewhich includes the Oral Health Promotion Service for Children and Adults withadditional needs across Cornwall, bringing educational visits and fluoridevarnishing to children in areas of high decay across Cornish communities. Youwill work to educate and promote oral health to other health/non-health careprofessionals working with vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups and engage withother audiences as appropriate. This may require the delivery of onlineeducation and you will also be involved with other outreach programmes as theyare developed across the county.
Keyaccountabilities:
Delivering the Oral Health Promotion programme to pre-determinedcommunities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, achieving/exceeding agreedtargets
Delivering oral health presentations to children,parents/guardians/carers, adults with additional needs, other health and socialcare professionals and other audiences as required
Raising awareness of oral health and risk factors for dental disease inschools and local communities
Encouraging dental attendance for those children and adults not receivingregular care
Recording and sharing feedback and evaluation to continually improve all ourservices
Data capture, recording and reporting from locations visited on a regularbasis and reporting formally on a quarterly basis
Ensuring all policies, protocols and guidelines are being implemented andfollowed, supporting the development of new policies as required for theOutreach team to continuously improve the quality of the programme
Working with other members of the Outreach team in developing thisvaluable service, which will entail working in partnership with other healthprofessionals
Providing dental nursing support to dentists and therapists acrossall areas of Smile Together, as required. When dental nursing, the post holder will beexpected to deliver a high standard of clinical support and making independent judgments withregard to equipment, instruments and materials, as would be expected of anexperienced, qualified dental nurse
Actively engaging with Smile Together teams and participating in auditactivities, planning and development sessions, and in-house meetings etc,playing an integral role in the company as a whole
Being responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis insites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance andlegislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the workarea, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the SmileTogether incident reporting procedure
Travelwill be required to and from various locations to work on the outreachprogrammes and when needed to provide dental nurse cover at other locations.
Undertaking other reasonable duties as requested by the Outreach andDental Nurse Development Manager
Maintaining and developing your clinical competency and continuingprofessional/personal development according to agreed training needs via ourSmile Together Training Academy
Recognising and assisting with any medicalemergencies
Working alongside clinical and professional support colleagues infacilitating ongoing organisational change and development
